The Book of Guinness World Records now has a new entry for the largest jackpot win in an online slot machine game! The massive £13,209,300 payout was won by British veteran soldier, Jon Heywood, aged 26 from Crewe, Cheshire in October 2015 and beats the previous 2013 record, which was a jackpot of 17,861,813 euros in Finland.

A spokesperson for the Guinness World Records said, “I’m pleased to confirm that that the Guinness World Records title for the largest jackpot payout in an online slot machine game (nominal) is €17,880,900 ($20,066,800, £13,213,838).” “Jon is certainly in the moolah now, thanks to his exceptional stroke of luck.”

Jon won his eight-figure fortune after playing at the Betway site on the popular Microgaming slot game, Mega Moolah. This online progressive jackpot game is a 5 reel, 25 line payline slot, which can be played on desktop, tablet and smartphones. Lance Corporal Heywood, who served in Afghanistan, deposited a total of £30 at Betway after he saw an advert on TV, and was placing 25p bets, which resulted in his mammoth win after just 7 minutes of spinning!

He landed the huge jackpot at 11.37pm on Tuesday 3^rd October, but had to keep his big win a secret for 3 days until the official prize presentation and even went to work the next day and had to act as if nothing had happened! Jon said: “The only people I’ve been able to tell so far are my superiors at work, my girlfriend and my parents. No one thought it was real. They might do once they see my picture in the paper!”

It took a while for the lucky multi-millionaire to come to terms with his new-found wealth. “I couldn’t believe that I’d won all this money at the time – and it still hasn’t sunk in. It’s amazing.”

With regards to what he would do with his money, selfless Mr Heywood vowed that “The first thing I will l spend it on is the best possible medical treatment for my dad.”  His father, 54-year-old Douglas is awaiting a heart and lung transplant. “That’s more important than anything. Family comes first and I’d give all this money back for him to be healthy again.”

However, Jon is planning to treat himself to one particular dream purchase – a new car. “I’m trying not to get carried away and I really don’t know what else I’m going to buy with the money,” he said. “Apart from a yellow Bentley Continental GT. I never even dreamed of driving a Bentley, let alone owning one. I’ve got a Fiat Punto at the moment.” He is also hoping to pay for his relatives to enjoy a Mediterranean cruise.
