Ok, something’s getting everyone a little too egg-cited this Easter.
In case you missed it, Cadbury are in hot water after dropping the word ‘Easter’ from the branding of their National Trust backed egg hunt. PM Theresa May and the Church of England have attacked the decision, raising concerns about losing the Christian significance of Easter.
Our fearless leader weighed in earlier today, calling the decision to name the event ‘The Great British Egg Hunt’ “ridiculous.”
“I’m not just a vicar’s daughter” Mrs May went on, “I’m a member of the National Trust as well. I think the stance they’ve taken is absolutely ridiculous and I don’t know what they’re thinking about.”
This came after comments made by the Church of England accusing the National Trust of “airbrushing faith”. The Archbishop of York said calling the event the Cadbury Egg Hunt was like “spitting on the grave” of the firm’s Christian founder, John Cadbury.”
Cadbury have risen to the challenge made by these remarks, drafting a rapid response, “We invite people from all faiths and none to enjoy our seasonal treats.”
A spokesman for Cadbury said: “Each year, our Easter campaigns have a different name and this year our seasonal campaign is called the ‘Cadbury’s Great British Egg Hunt’.
They went on to add that Easter was referred to on much of its packaging and marketing.
The National Trust have also distanced themselves from the downplaying of Easter, saying all branding of the egg hunt was down to Cadbury.
We are not downplaying the importance of Easter in any way, with 13,000+ mentions on our website alone: https://t.co/b7LCyh7FwT

A spokesman said: “The National Trust is in no way downplaying the significance of Easter, which is why we put on a huge number of events, activities and walks to bring families together at this time of year. We work closely with Cadbury, who are responsible for the branding and wording of our egg hunt campaign.”
While we appreciate it’s important not to forget the religious roots at this time of year, we can’t help but feel some of the criticism Cadbury has received is a little over the top. I mean, it’s not like they’ve not mentioned Easter anywhere.
As for Theresa May, you’d think she’d be a bit busy with other matters. Did someone say BrEGG-xit?
